Look out! It’s Željko Ivanek!

The new big name sports and pop culture blog Grantland got off to a roaring start this week, with one of my favorites being the HBO Recycling Program article and infographic. I’ve often commented on how Oz was the show that launched a thousand character actors*, but I see The Wire has it handily beat. (Many of these actors also appear in random episodes of Law & Order and Criminal Minds, too, but that is a story for another graphic.)

Do you recognize this man?

This article also reminded me of Željko Ivanek, who I believe may be the ultimate “hey, it’s that guy”. At one point last year he was appearing on my screen on a weekly basis in True Blood, Big Love, and reruns of Homicide: Life on the Street. I love seeing him appear on a new show — you know Ivanek is going to act the heck out of his character, and he’s probably playing a shady scumbag.

For more on character actors of past and present this blog has a really excellent, detailed list along with biographical details.

* A thousand character actors, but only one precariously placed tiny hat.

Infographic Squared

Here is an infographic of infographics! And it actually contains some interesting facts for fans of information design! Some days I’m pretty sure the internet is going to create a black hole, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Photo Post Overload

Wired Magazine: Where Do I Post My Photos Online?

I actually ran into this exact problem last week. I was sorting through the gallery on my phone with the intention of uploading a few photos, but I quickly became overwhelmed by my choices. I have Picasa photos which are also exported to X blog, but maybe it’s quirky enough for Mlkshk, or I could put it on Facebook but I put a photo there yesterday and I don’t want to be a Facebook spammer and ahhhhh!

The result of all that chaos was me being too confused to post anything… so here is a photo of a shih tzu puppy who came into my office and gave me a high five. You’re welcome!

Top 10 Social Media Addictions

Are you lost without a way to post status updates? Are your real plants dying while your virtual crops grow tall? Are you the check-in mayor of your own bathroom?

You might need a Social Media Detox. My friends and family will enthusiastically confirm that I have condition #10. I can’t find my Android phone! Emergency! There’s no WiFi here! I’m FREAKING OUT. The reception in the bathroom is really bad — I may have to use a bucket on the porch. Okay, that last one is an exaggeration, but not by a lot.

Dexter Death Infographic

Dexter Death InfographicI am a sucker for infographics. I know I’m supposed to abhor them as tools of the hipster internet crowd, but I just don’t. I can’t help it! They’re so organized and informative and usually represent excellent design style, not to mention provide an interesting overview of a certain topic. Take this one: this is a graphic of all the deaths that Dexter (of the eponymous television show) is responsible for, both directly and indirectly. It goes all the way to the end of S5, so avert your eyes from the bottom of the poster if you’re still catching up. (from the very cool Flowing Data. Click the image for full view)
